“THE EXTREME LIGHT FROM PHYSICS TO ART”- A Night in Florence with the Nobelist

The El.En. Group and Gรฉrard Mourou met after 3 years. It was in fact January 11, 2019 when the 2018 Nobel Prize laureate for Physics visited the Quanta Systems facilities in Samarate (Italy), as a demonstration of the value of the company and the activities which it carries forward daily.

Mourou was awarded the prestigious prize, together with Arthur Ashkin and Donna Srickland, in light of the pioneering researches conducted in the field of laser physics, studies which have paved the road for a multitude of scientific and medical applications. The so-called Chirped Pulse Amplification (CPA), fine-tuned by Mourou in collaboration with Strickland, is a technique which, thanks to the generation of ultra-brief and high-intensity pulses, has allowed for laser to be more versatile and to explore dynamics of physics which had been unknown. Mourou came back to meet the Group with a spectacular event on September 6 in Florence, at the Salone dei Cinquecento, where the most influent personalities of the international physics sector were present. Among these, Orazio Svelto, Professor Emeritus at the Politecnico di Milano and one of the most distinguished personalities in the laser and physics sectors. As it already happened at the 2019 event, this meeting represented one of the highlights of the company and all the people who are part of it, given the opportunity to meet a decisive figure in the world of lasers who, with his discoveries, has also allowed El.En. to progress from a scientific standpoint.

Florence, home of El.En. and DEKA, has transformed itself, for one night, in the world laser capital, before institutions, scientists, managers and people who are part of the company and live it everyday. All this will has been supported by a fantastic location like the Salone dei Cinquecento, one of the most evocative and iconic places in Florence. This has certainly been, also for Mourou, a moment of high value and a particularly exciting memory.
